Camaro Install Part 2

removing manual regualtor The manual regulator is removed from the quarter panel through the access hole.  Caution must be taken, not to drop and break the glass when it is loose.
The power regulator is fit into the rear quarter.  It will mount inside the quarter in approximately the position shown in the photo.  Before installing the new regulator, the window mechanism must be inspected for proper operation.  All worn guides and rollers must be replaced to insure smooth quiet operation. installing electric regulator
aligning electric regulator With the window mechanism in good working order, all pivot points and moving parts are lubricated with light grease.  The regulator is then inserted and lined up in the door.  The wheel at the end of the regulator arm slides into the channel at the bottom of the glass.
The nuts are tightened onto the new regulator and the stop bracket is transfered from the old regulator onto the new regulators arm. attaching electric regulator and stop
attaching wiring to electric regulator With the regulators mounted and working, the switches are mounted and wiring is run through the car.  Care is taken not to install wiring in any places where it may be damaged, pinched or cut.
The owner of this Camaro wanted to retain the original look.  The front portion of the manual regulator was cut off and mounted to the door so the handle could remain intact. The window switches are mounted under the dash where they can't be seen (see inset).  Alternately, "Hotronics" switches could be used. These switches use the original handles.  These switches look and work great.  Our only gripe is that you need to reach over to roll down the passenger windows. Camaro with switches under dash
Firebird with switches in door The owner of this Firebird decided on a more modern look.  All of the upholstery is new and our chrome 4 window switch kit was used.  This allows operation of all 4 windows from the drivers door
